11:00 AM on 5-9-14 and 2:00 PM on 5-10-14
at the Lake Mansion. 250 Court Street. Reno, NV.
A Myron Lake impersonator and auctioneer will reenactment the auctioning off of plots of land to form the city. Myron Lake operated the first toll bridge across the Truckee River in the early 1860′s, the site of today’s Virginia Street Bridge. He renamed it “Lakes Crossing” and he is often referred to as the Father of Reno. Lake entered in to a real estate deal with the Central Pacific Railroad to auction off plots of land on the north side of the Truckee River and the city of Reno was born. There will be plenty of birthday cake for the celebration.
The event will showcase the RenoHistorical.org mobile app. The app is a wealth of information about historic buildings in Reno and can be used for a walking tour of downtown.
