As part of the Nevada Humanities Festival 2015 Chautauqua, Doug Mishler will present Reveling in Nature: The peculiar Role Nature has in Shaping the American Identity on Thursday, June 25, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. in Laxalt Auditorium.
This interactive workshop examines how nature and “wild places” were the bedrock of the earliest American identity expressed by Hector De Crevecoeur; however, they have also been a consistent and vital part of the American makeup ever since, from Emerson, to that cowboy Theodore Roosevelt, to John Wayne movies, and Ronald Reagan and perhaps even climate change debates. Doug Mishler will explore nature’s role in text, films, videos, and even music.
