President's message: 5/3/17

Progress on relocating to a new building is going well and a proposed lease of a new facility has been finalized and sent to UNR administrators.  As it requires multiple approvals including the Board of Regents, your Board does not want to be presumptive of those actions by disclosing any details right now.  We will make a building announcement at our annual meeting on May 17th and, if all goes well, show slides of the building and plans.  A lot of good work has been done by the committee led by Warren Ronsheimer.

The budget for the coming year has been a challenge as our expenditures have exceeded our revenues due to both increased costs this year as well as a lower rate of return on our endowments.  OLLI has not increased our membership fees in 10 years: I believe a $10 increase from $45 to $55 is needed now.  We have the lowest membership fees of any of the other OLLIs (i.e., UNLV is $150 and Chico State is $295).

Your Board is committing to developing a 5 year financial plan to address OLLI's long term stability. A $10 increase is a small amount compared to the value received for the quality and wide variety of programming we enjoy.
I would appreciate your support of this increase at the May 17 meeting.
