President's message: June 28, 2017

The 2016-7 program year is coming to an end, and with it, my term as your President.  It has been a demanding year with numerous challenges as we marked both our 10th Anniversary and the end of our tenure in the Nelson Building.

OLLI started the year without a liaison to UNR and this required a tremendous effort by your Board in managing OLLI.  Mid-year, UNR and the Osher Foundation brought us an Executive Director and we were most fortunate to welcome Carol Parkhurst, an OLLI member with extensive UNR management experience.  By far our biggest challenge, however, was finding a new building for OLLI.  After looking at and evaluating over 60 buildings, 604 W. Moana has been secured as our new home.

I believe this coming year will be a new beginning; an evolution as OLLI grows, welcomes new members, and addresses the future. The organizational culture will be different in the new facility and new members bring change.  OLLI will fare well under the leadership of your new President, Lynne Gray. I truly believe that our OLLI will continue to be the star and most successful of all the 119 OLLI’s across the country.

I want to thank our Board for all their hard work and all of you for your support the last 24 months.  It has been an honor and privilege to lead this organization.  I hope to see you all in some of our sessions this Fall and wish everyone a great summer.
--Ralph Jaeck, OLLI (about-to-be past) President
